Prickly guests

OK, it's been a while, but I'm back in blogland.  Perhaps I've been waiting for some exciting news to come along...

Last weekend we adopted 3 fat little hedgehogs, a sibling group, who had lived in the Wildlife Centre since they were little and now been passed as fit for release. They came at short notice so they had to make do with temporary accommodation until some offcuts and rusty nails could be assembled to fashion a custom-built hoghouse. This fits neatly under a hedge and should be well protected there...but would they find it? Or would they like it? And would we have any idea if they decided to use it?

A bundle of loose straw lay in the entrance with a low dish of food nearby...and sheltering under an umbrella I waited. Nobody appeared.

But this morning the food has gone and the straw has been flattened, right across the entrance.
I think they've been in there, if only to have a look around.
If they like, it I'm sure they'll be back.

Oh I do hope so. They need somewhere warm and dry to stay in over the winter and that detached house looks fab.
